Rovio celebrates Angry Birds's second anniversary with 15 party-themed levels in update

Rovio celebrates Angry Birds's second anniversary with 15 party-themed levels in update It?s amazing to think that not one single person on the planet had considered using his phone to throw an aggravated bird at a thieving pig before December 2009. Probably.

24 months later, however, and lobbing feathery projectiles at bacon-flavoured targets is practically a way of life for smartphone owners.

And so it is that Rovio is celebrating the...

Grand Central Terminal Apple Store previewed for media, opens Friday

Apple previewed its latest retail development for the press today. The Grand Central Terminal store in New York City, opening Friday, will be among the largest Apple stores in the world; it overlooks the Main Concourse from the East and North East balconies of Grand Central Terminal.

Check out the gallery of inside shots above, courtesy of NPD's Ross Rubin. He reports that the store includes an "express checkout" area ("like an Apple Store inside the Apple Store") and dual Genius Bars.

Business Insider posted some nice shots of what the store looks like on the inside and Fortune has a video walkthrough, embedded below.

As an extra bonus to commuters, Apple is providing free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal. Also, the store will be the first to offer 15-minute Express Workshops of "tips and tricks in a streamlined format to serve customers on a tight schedule," according to a press release issued by Apple this morning.

The Grand Central Terminal store opens to the public this Friday, December 9, at 10 AM. Over three hundred Apple employees will be on hand to help the expected rush of holiday shoppers. Normal business hours will be from 7 AM to 9 PM, Monday through Friday; Saturday 10 AM to 7 PM, and Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM. Our own Mike Rose will be scoping out the opening; if you see him on Friday, say hello (he'll be the guy in the TUAW t-shirt).

I got to sit down and interview Dana White ahead of UFC 140. The event takes place on December 10thin Toronto, Canada and like every UFC event, heavily hyped via social media. Over the past 3 years,Dana Whiteand theUFChave built a very strong social media presence. I wanted to speak to the president of the UFC himself and get some more detail on what he thinks of Twitter and other social media tools. Dana talks about how he got into Twitter, how he uses it to help his business, what are the pitfalls and benefits. He's a huge fan. "Twitter is the greatest invention in the history of marketing," he tells me. Watch the video.

iPhone sales estimates creeping up from Wall Street analysts

Yesterday's announcement by AT&T that it's well on the way to selling a record number of smartphones -- many of which are most likely the iPhone 4S -- was encouraging to Wall Street analysts who are now bumping up their estimates of just how many of the phones Apple may sell in the December quarter.

According to AllThingsD, two of the most bullish analysts are Brian White from Ticonderoga, who thinks Apple is on track to sell 29.9 million iPhones in the quarter, and BTIG Research's Walter Piecyk, who one-upped White with an estimate of 30 million. Piecyk made his optimistic statement back in August, before the iPhone 4S was even announced, so it will be impressive indeed if his crystal ball proves to be the most accurate.

Those 29.9 million iPhone sales predicted by White represent an 84 percent increase over the previous quarter ending September 30, 2011. iPhone sales were down from analyst estimates for that quarter, primarily because many consumers held off on purchasing so that they could get the next big thing from Apple.

Shaw Wu from Stern Agee raised his estimate of iPhone sales from 26 million to 28 million, while Maynard Um of UBS went completely bullish and changed his number from 28 million to 30 million. Um thinks sales could be even higher than that, based on unprecedented demand in the Asia Pacific region.

None of this, of course, is going to surprise Apple CEO Tim Cook, who stated during the October earnings call that "We're very confident that we will set an all-time record in the December quarter for iPhone sales. We -- in our wildest dreams, we couldn't have gotten off to a start as great as we have on the 4S."

iPhone sales estimates creeping up from Wall Street analysts originally appeared on TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog on Thu, 08 Dec 2011 13:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
